DHL Expands Airfreight Cold Chain with €2 Billion Investment

DHL Group has expanded its Airfreight Cold Chain Network as part of a €2 billion investment in healthcare logistics, introducing a branded Boeing 777 freighter and increasing temperature-controlled capacity on major routes. The initiative aims to improve reliability for temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals by reducing reliance on third-party carriers and strengthening supply chain resilience amid regulatory and geopolitical challenges. The network initially connects Brussels and Cincinnati, with plans to extend to Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America.

Background

In April 2025, DHL Group announced a €2 billion investment through 2030 to strengthen its Life Sciences & Healthcare (LSH) logistics under "Strategy 2030." The investment targets improvements to storage, distribution, shipping, and last-mile delivery, including development of GDP-certified Pharma Hubs and specialized cold chain capabilities for low and ultra-low temperature shipments. The strategy also calls for upgraded IT systems for end-to-end visibility and is supported by acquisitions such as CryoPDP.1Apr 07, 2025: DHL Group to Invest EUR 2 Billion by 2030 in DHL Health Logistics to Boost Globally Integrated Healthcare Solutions - DHL Group
